Fire protection

"The No. 1 uncertainty factor is the human being"

According to their own statements, many employees in the companies are not able to use a fire extinguisher correctly and effectively in the event of a fire.

The correct behavior in case of fire, about the dangers that exist when escape and rescue routes are blocked, can very often be attributed to a lack of important basic knowledge.

Just ask your employees where the nearest fire protection equipment such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers, wall hydrants and/or smoke vents (RWA) are located and how they are operated! Most of the time, the answers will make you think.

And that could have fatal consequences!
Fire protection

"Fire protection" refers to protective measures that prevent, limit or prevent the outbreak of fire and the spread of fire and smoke and, in the event of a fire, enable the rescue of people and animals as well as effective extinguishing work.

Preventive fire protection is the umbrella term for all structural, technical and organizational measures that are intended to prevent or at least limit the development and spread of fires and their effects. It can be divided into three different categories:

  • Structural fire protection
  • Technical and operational fire protection systems
  • Organizational fire protection

  • It should be noted that optimal preventive fire protection is only given if equal importance is attached to all three categories.

Structural fire protection describes all fire protection measures that should be available in a building. These structural measures apply to all materials used in the construction of a structure, but also to the construction and maintenance of escape routes and firewalls [VerwG Arnsberg, 08/21/2008, 3 L 547/08].

The technical fire protection includes all systems connected to the building, which have been installed to prevent fires. These are for example
    • fire extinguishing systems
    • fire alarm systems
    • fire doors

Measures designed to reduce the risk of fire and improve firefighting are referred to as organizational fire protection. They serve different purposes:

    • prevention of fires
    • combating fire damage
Ensuring the effectiveness of the structural and technical fire protection measures
In public buildings, organizational fire protection is of immense importance; For this reason, employees are also trained in how to behave in accordance with fire protection.

On the other hand, there is defensive fire protection, which comes into play when preventive fire protection has largely failed.

Measures taken by this when preventive fire protection has failed are referred to as defensive fire protection. This includes not only the actual extinguishing of the fire, but also the prevention of associated damage.

Such are, for example, damages which are due to
    • Smoke,
    • extinguishing water or
    • failures occur.
    • fire regulations

The regulation regarding the behavior of people within a building or company in the event of fire and for fire-prevention measures is referred to as "fire protection regulations". In terms of status, it is equivalent to house rules or general terms and conditions.

How these fire protection regulations should look individually is not subject to any national regulation. In workplaces, for example, comprehensive and appropriate information must be passed on to the employees.

In general, fire protection regulations are divided into three different parts:

    1. Behavior in the event of a fire for all people who are in the building at the time. This part should be as short as possible g
Fires repeatedly claim human lives and cause very high property damage (on average around 600 deaths and damage of around €4.5 billion per year.)

That is why we would like to help you in raising the awareness of your employees in the area of preventive fire protection and offer you fire protection training as part of our training program.
Anyone who has taken part in a fire safety training course not only knows how fires start and have an impact, but also what can be done about it!

    Take responsibility.
